"Heart of the Home" - Cool Kitchen Vocabulary

Good Day friends! அட ஆமாம்!! 😅 Oh yeah!! 😎

Yesterday, I felt this when I was listening to the speech of my favorite writer S.Ra(S.Ramakrishnan) in a youtube video!

When I came across one point he shared, I felt..."அட ஆமாம்!Oh yeah!!"

What did I hear? Sharing for you..."To see the unity and diversity of incredible india, go to kitchen and look at your "Anjarai petty"(அஞ்சறைப் பெட்டி). Pepper comes from a different state, Cardamom comes from a different place, Chilly comes from a different state, Turmeric comes from a different place, Bay leaf comes from a different state and all gets united in kitchen and in our cooking!!"

How true right?!!

To me, kitchen is not just meant for women! Men and women all need and have access to this "Heart of the Home" where love is served daily!

So this thought made me write about kitchen vocabulary today.

Today we are going to take a quick kitchen tour in visuals mostly.

Though some of these items we don't use in our daily life in Indian kitchens, I always feel we need to be aware - so that even if we don't use it in our sentences, when somebody talks about this, we should not be blank or blink without knowing what it is, if we have to respond.

Even if we don't respond, we should know about these to understand their conversation😅😇!

Ok, here we go...some cool kitchen vocabulary..we do have exercises at the end- like last time for I-32 starters!😎

Above picture credits: 'Learning centre' fb page.

Also, Did you notice two incomplete vocabulary & one mistake in the above pictures...Find them and tell me in comments/send email to zoomtalks@gmail.com.

Now, here comes the next interesting part, two sets of exercises to apply in daily life!

Hope you all enjoyed the cool kitchen vocabulary..

Grab your "English passport book" and make sentences, write them and share with me in the comments/send email to zoomtalks@gmail.com.

Let's learn an interesting topic in next post.

007 tips to start "SPOKEN ENGLISH"

Good Day friends! There are 100s of tips in Internet for SPOKEN ENGLISH! But today, here we have just 7 tips - JAMES BOND tips...007 TIPS to start speaking in English! Happy reading!

So, let's get ready to SPEAK ENGLISH and WIN-English with very few basic tips and tricks!

** Tip #001 - Wear Speaker!

How to wear speakers? Let's change the shirt we are wearing- I mean to change the role!

Let's first change the mind from "I am learning English" to "I am speaking English" and wear the new shirt of SPEAKER!

** Tip #002 - Make mistakes!

You would have seen the advertisement "கறை நல்லது ", "Daag Achhe hain".. Similarly when starting to speak English, " Make mistakes - it is very good!"

More mistakes we make, more we learn...So, let's start speaking and make more mistakes...and gradually we can correct and speak better English!

** Tip #003 - Take your passport!

Go and get a notepad/small book -dedicated for English words/vocabulary and short tips. You can give a fancy name in the cover page called "My Peter Book/ My passport/ My miracle book/ My guide...or whatever name that would" bring a smile on your face.

You will realize the value of it when it gets filled and you reach last page of the book..That is going to be your passport to visit "many areas/many people" confidently!

** Tip #004 - Forget your villain-NOW!

Can you guess who is the common villain for all those who want to speak English? Yes it is..G-R-A-M-M-A-R..the 7 letter villain. The fear of making grammar mistakes stops us from opening the mouth and speaking English. For first few weeks, forget this villain..enjoy the duet with your hero/heroine "Your passport". Let's fight/make Grammar as friend little later- Otherwise this villain will never make you enjoy the joy of speaking English.

** Tip #005 - Drink 2 TEA everyday!

People say "Tea" is not very good for health. But these two TEAs(Ts) will help you!

First TEA(T) we need to drink is "Throw the Fear". Whatever may be the fear, let's throw that outside ...and have a sip of tea/coffee(if you wish) and start SPEAKING.

Second TEA(T) we need to take is "Think in English".

For example, instead of thinking words like "வீடு/அழகு".. start thinking "House/ Beautiful".

Instead of thoughts like "இந்த வீடு அழகா இருக்கு".. start thinking "This house is beautiful"

It will be difficult in the beginning..but if it becomes a habit, we will surely see a huge difference soon in speaking!

** Tip #006 - Always K-I-S-S!

What I mean by above words is "Keep It Short & Simple"! Always try to speak simple words..simple sentences..That will clear the starting trouble and soon we will get more confidence!

** Tip #007 - TALK-TALK-TALK!

Instead of TALK LESS, WORK MORE...smart way to improve SPOKEN ENGLISH is "TALK-TALK-TALK- TALK MORE!". More we talk, more we will know our mistakes, more we can correct and more confident we can be SOON!

Hope this helps. Good luck!

See you soon in another interesting topic!

"WWW Intro" - Formula and examples for Self-introduction

 Dear friends,

     Good Day!

In today's article, I am glad to share a simple WWW formula and few examples for doing Self-introduction! Happy reading!!

Introduction is the key part and the first step in any group conversation  or interview or in any new forum.  In this article, we present three tips!

WWW - Here are the three “W”s we need to keep in mind when doing a self-introduction:

  •         W #1 - Where are you from?
  • W #2 - What do you do?
  • W #3 - What are your special skills/hobbies/favorites?

FEW examples for explaining W #1:

  • I’m based in Chennai, but I live in PerambalurThis phrase is used when you want to make it clear that your current living situation is temporary, or you do a lot of traveling because of your job.
  • I’m a colleague of Nithya’sWhen introducing yourself in a group or at an event (like a party or a conference), it’s helpful to explain your connection to other people in the group or event. Similar phrases include: I work together with Nithya, Nithya and I work together in ADWHS School, Thiruvarur.
  • I’m the father of two young girlsYou can use this phrase if you want to say something about your family (it’s also a simple way for parents to explain why they don’t have much “free” time). Similar phrases include: I’m the daughter of two teachers / I’m one of five children / I’m the son of Retired Headmaster Ganapathy.

FEW examples for explaining W #2:

These phrases are good for both formal situations like job interviews, as well as casual situations like parties.

  • I work at Reliance in the Marketing DepartmentThis phrase also works for students: I study Visual Communications at Loyola College / I’m a student at MIT in the Mechanical department.
  • I have worked at Government Nandanar School since 2005 / for 10 yearsDetails about time are nice to include in your self-introduction, but remember that English requires a different verb tense (known as the present perfect) when you use the prepositions for or since.
  • I’m responsible for managing the social work campaignsWhen introducing yourself to people in the same company or department, you can use this phrase to describe the most important thing you do. Similar phrases include I’m in charge of and I deal with.
  • I hold a master’s degree in Chemistry from Bharathidasan UniversityThis phrase is useful when you want to highlight your educational achievements.

FEW examples for explaining W #3:

These phrases are for adding that extra information about you - which you share depending on the people you are talking. You could share what you feel as special skills (or) what do you do in free time (or) what do you like/dislike in general about people or specific about food/art & crafts/interests/movies/personalities.

  • I have dedicated my life to helping others. For 35 years, I was a professional nurse at Army hospital.
  • I am good at acrylic painting and drawing different kinds of art like Mandala art and Zentangles. I learnt it myself by watching YouTube videos.
  • I love cooking different dishes.  I keep trying many recipes in free time from internet and YouTube.
  • I like watching Tamil films. My favorite actor is Kamalhaasan. I watch his TV programs also.
  • I like to keep myself active. My hobbies are reading books, listening to music and playing carrom with my children

"More to add" could be taken as assignments and try answering them along with WWW intro😎

Bye for now 👋

See you soon in another interesting article to help you WIN-English!
